The Devotion of Suspect X
The Devotion of Suspect X is a series of novels written in 2005 by Higashino Keigo, the third volume in the Detective Galileo series (ie Manabu Yukawa character) and this is the work. his most successful ever. This novel has won him numerous awards, including the 134th Naoki Prize, an extremely noble award in Japan. In addition, this work also won the 6th Honkaku Award, one of the prestigious awards for works of the mystery genre in Japan. Two Annual Mystery Guide Books – Honkaku’s 10 Best Mystery Novels (2006) and Kono Mystery ga Sugoi! (2006), ranked the novel in the first place.
The English version of the novel was nominated in 2012 for the best novel of the Edgar and his first novel in 2012 Best of Award Barry.
The story begins with the characters Ishigami Tetsuya and Yasuko Hanaoka begin their everyday life. Yasuko Hanaoka is a divorced single mother who works at a local bento restaurant. Ishigami is an extremely talented math teacher who is the neighbor of Yasuko and her daughter Misato. One day, Togashi (Yasuko’s ex-husband) appears to beg for money from Yasuko, then threatens both her and Misato, the situation suddenly turns violent, and Togashi is killed by mother and daughter. Hearing the scuffle, Ishigami, who has a crush on Yasuko, asked for help, handling the body and elaborating the murder story step by step.
When the body was found and identified, Kusanagi investigated the case and Yasuko became a suspect. Kusanagi was unable to find a suspicious point in Yasuko’s alibi, but he was still certain that something was wrong with her testimony, something he had yet to find out.
