Return to Summer by Krista Harper ePub PDF free download – Havila Springs —or Havila as locals call it— is a resort oasis created in the aftermath of a local dam construction. Surrounded by miles of sand and harsh conditions, the dam was originally frowned upon by residents until they realized a booming tourism mecca could be created due to the vast reservoir that was ultimately made with the dams’ creation. Havila quickly became a manmade paradise in the middle of the desert for snowbirds and wealthy West Coast natives who turn to the town when they need a break from reality.
While the town population normally hovers around five thousand, it explodes tenfold during Spring Break when college kids invade, and during the winter months when arthritis flares up for East Coast seniors. My grandparents were part of the latter. Originally from New York, the dry desert called to them when my grandmother’s joints started aching and forced them to transplant their lives to the barren climate. Grandma Beatrice believed the arid weather was the only comfort she could find, so she and my grandfather spent several winters in Havila while he was still alive. I had the unfortunate opportunity to spend some of those winters with them and ultimately my entire senior year of high school here while my parents were going through their messy divorce. After graduation and the dust settled between their lawyers, I returned to my life in New York and never looked back.
