New Moon is a novel fantasy-romance for teens ages of female writer Stephenie Meyer. This is Meyer’s second novel in the Twilight series. This book, unlike the previous one, talks about the loss of true love. It was first published in hardcover in 2006.
Isabella “Bella” Swan (a protagonist of the series) is “forced” to a birthday party organized by Alice and Edward Cullen, the Vampire she loves, and the rest of the vampire family. While opening a gift wrap, she accidentally cut her finger. Edward’s brother Jasper, despite trying to abstain from human blood, is still strongly stimulated by the smell of blood and attacks Bella. To ensure her safety from the vampire world, Edward told Bella that he no longer loved her and left the town of Forks, Washington with his family. Bella is deeply hurt and seeks comfort in Jacob Black, an old family friend, who can help her ease the pain of losing Edward.
Bella and Jacob began to get more together, and Bella quickly noticed the stimulation of adrenaline in her blood as she placed herself in dangerous situations that would create the illusion of Edward’s voice. Bella began to plunge into reckless actions, like driving a motorbike, to elicit hallucinations. Meanwhile, Jacob realized himself as a werewolf and then revealed this to Bella. Afterward, Bella had the most dangerous action ever, it was jumping from the top of the mountain to the sea, but nearly drowned in the rough sea and was saved by Jacob.
At the same time, Alice, Edward’s vampire sister, who has the ability to see the future, foresaw Bella’s jumping from the cliff. Thinking that Bella was dead, Alice rushed to Forks to visit Charlie Swan, Bella’s father, and Edward called to Bella’s home. Jacob takes the call and informs Edward that Charlie is attending the funeral, referring to the funeral of a man in the town who died of a heart attack, but Edward concludes that Jacob is referring to Bella’s funeral. Depressed after believing that Bella was dead, Edward flew to Italy to meet Volturi, the vampers of peace, who were capable of killing Edward, to help him leave the world without Bella.
Bella and Alice rush to Volterra, Italy to stop Edward, and save him before it’s too late. Before they left Italy, the Volturi told them that Bella, a human who knew the existence of vampires, would have to die or become a vampire. After everyone returned to the Folks, Edward explained to Bella that he was leaving just to ensure her safety, and she agreed to forgive. The story ends with the Cullen house voting to turn Bella into a vampire in Edward’s opposition.
