On January 12, 2017, Universal Music Latin released Despacito and its video clip, showing two artists singing the title at La Perla, a neighborhood in Old Town San Juan, Puerto Rico and at a local bar. On August 4, 2017, at 23:30, the clip became the most viewed video on YouTube in excess of 3 billion views; she was the first video to reach this threshold (watched a few hours later by Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again). On October 30, 2017, Despacito was also the first video to exceed 4 billion views on Youtube and 5 billion on April 4, 2018. On April 10, 2018, the YouTube clip, distributed by Vevo, was deleted by two hackers named Prosox and Kuroi ‘Sh, who are also responsible for hacking other Vevo channels. A few hours later, the clip came back online, with the number of views restored.
The song was introduced in the Guinness World Edition 2019 for breaking 7 records. On February 26, 2019, the video became the first video to exceed 6 billion views on YouTube. The second most viewed video from YouTube is Ed Sheran’s Shape of You clip, which is far behind with 4.09 billion views.
