Between the World and Me (Ta-Nehisi Coates) is a novel-style book, written as a letter to the author’s son explaining what he needs to remember as a black person growing up in the United States – a country Gia used to use their ancestors as slaves and until now has not eradicated racism.

This is a slightly different book compared to the genres I read, but I’m lucky to have chosen it. “Between the World and Me” is a 100-page letter written by Ta-Nehisi Coates to his 15-year-old son about the life of a black man in America, or rather, the way a black person Black in the US was born and exist. (He is a journalist, writer, and author of the Black Panther story for Marvel.)
Between the World and Me spent a lot of time observing, thinking, and feeling about his skin color and what it symbolizes. “Between the World and Me” is not a letter of grievance, it is almost a declaration of war against the racist old tree (for blacks), deeply rooted in the background. American soil.
Between the World and Me dug up each soil grain, peering at the roots of the trees instead of just cutting off the branches and leaves on the surface. When a black kid pulls out a gun to scare his classmates in the schoolyard, it is not an outburst, or simply because he is a spoiled child. When school encourages black children to watch a documentary film about nonviolent struggle, it is a meaningful incentive. All of these experiences have touched the soul of Ta-Nehisi Coates since he was a child, and he doesn’t let them skim past superficially.
That’s the way Ta-Nehisi Coates told his life to his son Samori, with “Between the World and Me”. He was born, raised, grown up with the body of a black person who often thought about his skin color, with a fear that enveloped blacks throughout the United States, always remembering that free time in the calendar Their history is less than slave time. Racism is not a flaw in the American dream. It is part of the American dream.
