In Yoga: The Path to Holistic Health, 82 year-old Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar Light on Yoga The Tree of Yoga, one of the worlds top yoga instructors, makes it more accessible, providing comprehensive directions for bearings of all degrees of difficulty, exemplified by colour photographs and followed by useful explanations of the health benefits. The fundamental Adhomukha Svanasana Sanskrit for downward facing dog posture stimulates the nervous system, whereas the daunting Salamba Sirsasana headstand boosts clarity of idea and enhances your memory. Other positions, based on Iyengar, boost the immune and lymph system, tone muscles and, most significant, alleviate stress. Not merely a how-to, Iyengars publication also has a succinct explanation of yogas spiritual dimension. First it’s amazing and coffee table caliber. Second, the clear photographs and descriptions, together with the business of this publication, have left it quite a helpful adjunct for my yoga classes. I’m practicing more frequently and with better objective. Also pronouncing the Sanskrit titles before every pose, which had been challenging before since I’d heard them in course, I had not seen them in composing related to the pose before. Not that this is vitally important, however, it makes me feel as a true student today. There are useful sections organized around different disorders to help select proper therapeutic poses.
